The South African Mint presents the second release in the new “Big Five III” series, dedicated to the lion, the king of beasts. This 1/4 oz gold coin is struck in Proof quality and issued in a limited mintage of just 2,000 pieces worldwide.

The coin’s design features a full-body depiction of a lion standing on a rock, as well as a unique engraving of the Cape honeybee, emphasising the ecological importance of the region. The reverse features two halves of a lion’s head, which align with adjacent coins to form a complete close-up portrait of the animal.

Each coin is accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity and comes in its original presentation case.
